Essence of the Wall

Here is a pen illustration from me after quite some time. This work is based on Pink Floyd’s album “The Wall”. It is my visualization of The Wall. I have forged it to a single piece adding my own essence and visions that are subtle, yet clear. I had been working on this for the past two months now, keeping on working on this whenever I got time. More than 100 hours have gone into this work and I’m pleased how it has turned out to be. If anyone has listened to “the Wall”, they’ll be able to connect to this and for those who haven’t; I say the music just grips you. And I need to warn you too… Floyd speaks of the horror that life is, and it can be a bit addictive and depressing. Watch the movie “The Wall” also, and you’ll be able to read this drawing better. It took me about two months to complete this A3 sized drawing that was done using the 0.5mm black ink uniball pen. The artwork is based upon Pink Floyd's album 'The Wall' and hence it's titled 'The essence of the Wall'. You could find pieces of me, and may be what I was going through while this was drawn. You'll find a lot of other things than that too, from outside the album and outside me too. The work visually has a strong base on the movie 'The Wall' also. This is one of my works that I have put my full heart into.

Starting directly with the pen (without plotting with pencil first), I was too eager to get my inspiration, angst and anger on to the paper. As I said earlier, it took me about two months to complete it. I locked myself with this drawing. I started thinking about it, staring at the not yet done blank spaces on the paper, drawing imaginary lines and rubbing them off. I did something crazier during this period of time. I stopped listening to other music. I stopped watching other movies. If there is something I've listened to during the two months, it was Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'. 'The Wall' is the only movie I've watched during the period too. I listened to the songs over and over and over and drank deep what it resonated. By the time I finished the drawing, I' had watched the movie about twenty times. Also, by the time this work was completed, I was completely drugged by the music, the movie and the art. I fell into depression and was suicidal for a few days after that. It took me about a month to recover from the damp. The work is part the music, part the movie, part me and part the horrors the society inflicted upon me.
